Job summary

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) invites applications for a Climate Scientist to join the Atmosphere, Ice, & Climate (AIC) team in Cambridge on a fixed-term contract. You will work on the ROASII project, using models and observations to quantify rainfall over Antarctic sea ice and its future projections.

You will collaborate with BAS, University partners, and international scientists, lead writing of papers, and access BAS training opportunities.

Qualifications

• PhD in atmospheric sciences or similar field.
• Experience analysing and visualising climate datasets (model, observations, reanalysis).
• Strong understanding of climate/meteorology and statistics.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proactive problem solving and initiative.

Responsibilities

• Compare rain and snowfall over Antarctic sea ice using RCMs and observations.
• Quantify present-day rainfall occurrences and snowfall over sea ice.
• Use datasets and techniques to link synoptic processes to rain events.
• Identify GCM subsets for improved rainfall projections to 2100.
• Attend meetings and contribute to relevant conferences.
• Lead writing of scientific papers.
