Job summary

The Economist Group is seeking a Software Engineer, Android, to help build and improve our mobile applications. You will contribute to delivering reliable, high‑quality features while growing your expertise in native Android development.

You will work in a collaborative, remote‑first environment alongside experienced engineers, contributing to both new features and ongoing improvements to the app. You will develop and maintain Android applications with Kotlin, work with Product and Design to

Qualifications

• Experience in Android development.
• Proficiency in Kotlin and familiarity with Android frameworks (e.g. Jetpack Compose, Android SDK).
• Experience building and shipping mobile applications.
• Understanding of mobile development fundamentals, including UI patterns and performance considerations.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and integrating backend services.
• Exposure to testing practices and CI/CD workflows.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Android applications using Kotlin and modern frameworks.
• Build user interfaces and features in collaboration with Product and Design.
• Contribute to application architecture and code quality within the team.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code.
• Debug issues and help improve application performance and stability.
• Participate in code reviews and team engineering practices.
• Work with backend services and APIs to deliver end‑to‑end functionality.
• Support testing, release, and CI/CD processes.
