Job summary

The Guardian is seeking an experienced Android developer to build and test major features for its Android apps, while improving existing functionality. You will collaborate with iOS, server-side, web engineering, design, product, editorial, and commercial teams, and take a leadership role in some projects.

You will guide other developers, contribute to product and technical decisions, and explore innovative solutions during hack days.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in Android development.
  • Strong competence in modern Android development tools including Jetpack Compose, Coroutines/Flow, MVVM, Webviews, and modular architectures.
  • Ability to test code and promote a culture of testing.
  • Experience with JVM unit testing, instrumented testing, and UI regression testing.
  • Comfortable with cutting-edge technologies and legacy code.
  • Willingness to take on leadership in team projects.
  • Rough understanding of iOS development and interest in learning more.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with Swift and Objective-C for iOS, Scala and Typescript for server-side development.

  • £82,000 Per year
  • One office day per week in Kings Cross and four remote days
