Job summary

Capital One in London is seeking a Lead Android Engineer to steer native Android app development, set technical direction, and mentor multiple mobile teams. Lead Android Engineer

Location: London - Hybrid Working Pattern: 3 days in-office (Tuesday-Thursday) and 2 days remote.

Role Overview

Lead mobile platform engineering of fully native Android apps. Set pace for multiple mobile engineering teams and lead design of new product iterations, architectural decisions, and technical evangelism while mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a team of technologists alongside product, design, and other disciplines.
• Design new product iterations, think strategically about architectural decisions and communicate to stakeholders.
• Act as a technical evangelist, evaluate technical risks and coach and mentor junior engineers.
• Advocate for automated testing, TDD, BDD, pair programming, and continuous improvement.
• Build resilient, performant, secure code respecting customer data sensitivity.
• Drive automation of deployment pipelines and testing.
• Share knowledge through code reviews, coaching, and effective communication.
• Collaborate across mobile engineering teams to deliver high quality products.

Qualifications & Skills

• Strong programming skills in Kotlin and Java for Android and backend orchestration services.
• Experience with Android Studio and Android platform at scale.
• Familiarity with JUnit, Espresso, and testing frameworks.
• Experience with AWS or cloud environments for continuous improvement.
• Excellent problem solving, willingness to learn new technologies.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
• Background in automation, CI/CD, and scalable architecture.
• Understanding of data security, privacy and performance best practices.
