Job description

Reporting to the Head of Analysts, the successful candidate will gain excellent exposure to the investment management world by being involved in every aspect of bfinance’s advisory business. This will include investment manager assessment, analysis and report preparation supporting all asset classes (including Equities, Fixed Income, Private Markets, Hedge Funds and other diversifying strategies).

From an early stage you will gain first‑hand experience of how the world’s largest institutional investors manage their portfolios and be able to meet with investment managers to develop your knowledge across asset classes and strategies.

You will also use your aptitude for data analysis and coding skills to contribute to the automation of the initial data crunching process to enable the analyst team to focus on the qualitative analysis of the asset sector and managers.

Primary responsibilities will include:
  • Working with senior asset class specialists to develop customised investment manager recommendations for our clients, across all asset classes
  • Identifying opportunities for automation of large amounts of data analysis
  • Conducting advanced quantitative analysis on a wide universe of investment managers and strategies, whilst assisting asset class specialists with qualitative analysis
  • Working with and assisting in the development of advanced quantitative analysis tools
  • Meeting and liaising with global investment managers
  • Preparing ad‑hoc research material on asset classes, economic issues and investment manager developments.

bfinance is committed to the organic growth and development of its team. Although the role is initially a generalist position across asset classes, our Analyst team typically develop a specialism over time, progressing to specialised, client facing roles with our Research teams providing technical support to our clients.

Skills and experience
  • Degree in a relevant subject (ranging from finance and economics through to mathematics or engineering or a less quantitative subject combined with demonstrable analytical ability)
  • Strong aptitude for data and statistical analysis, in particular quantitative analysis of financial data, is essential.
  • Coding experience preferred (ideally in Python, SQL) gained through academic studies or practical experience is desirable.
  • Strong interest in Financial Markets and Asset/Investment Management.
  • A high level of fluency in both spoken and written English.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Highly motivated, problem‑solving, able to demonstrate interpersonal and team skills, with strong presentation skills.
  • Potential is more important than experience and training will be provided both ‘on the job’ from senior colleagues and more formally through support for studying for the CFA or CAIA qualification.
  • Basic experience in Fund Monitoring or Performance Measurement or financial data analysis would be an advantage.
