Job summary

NHS Professionals Limited are seeking bank Anaesthetic Practitioners to support the theatres team at University Hospital Southampton. Candidates will work across multiple theatres and specialties, supporting major trauma and a range of procedures in a busy NHS environment.

The role requires a Qualified Registered Nurse or ODP with UK registration and at least 12 months recent anaesthetics experience in the UK. This is a bank/ ad-hoc position within England’s largest NHS staff bank.

Qualifications

• UK registration and current professional status are required.

Responsibilities

• Act as patient advocate and maintain high standards of patient care across relevant age groups.
• Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate individualised patient-centred care and support staff as appropriate.
• Receive patients and relatives and keep them informed of treatment and progress.
• Coordinate care of patients and liaise with multi-professional team to ensure treatments are carried out according to policy.
• Contribute to infection prevention and standard precautions and minimise infection risk.

Job summary

NHS Professionals are looking for bank ANAESTHETIC PRACTITIONERS to support the theatres team at University Hospital Southampton.

UHS has 40 theatres, you will work across multiple areas including Trauma Orthopaedics, ENT Max Fac, Vascular, Thoracic, General and CEPOD along with Cardiac and Neuro. The team also works in X Ray, Cath labs, Angio suites CT and MRI scanners. We support our ED colleagues caring for Level One Trauma, we are an adult and paediatric Major Trauma Centre.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high standard of individualised patient care, in accordance with agreed policies and within available resources, which has the Trust core values at its heart. You should be able to demonstrate the aptitude to work in highly pressurised situations with maturity, motivation, enthusiasm, and common sense.

• We are looking for an experienced ODP/RN who is ready for the next step in their Anaesthetics career, is passionate and will strive to inspire, develop and support every patient, every colleague, every day.
• As a Band 5 ODP/RN in anaesthetics you will have recent post- registration experience within an acute theatre environment.

Job responsibilities

• To act as patient advocate and to maintain high standards of patient care, appropriate to the age of the patient, where relevant and ensuring that patient objectives are achieved using a systematic approach to patient care.
• To assess plan deliver and evaluate individualised patient centred care and provide support and advice to other staff as appropriate
• To receive patients and their relatives in accordance with recognised policies and ensure that they are kept informed of treatment and progress.
• To arrange the care of patients property, in accordance with Unit policies and within the limitations of hospital responsibilities.
• To liaise with all members of the multi-professional team to ensure that all treatments are correctly carried out in accordance with given policy.
• Demonstrate an awareness of resources and cost-effective measures in planning care.
• Implement the role of the perioperative practitioner in minimising the health and safety risk to patients, visitors and all members of staff.
• Identify the criteria for good practice in minimising the risk of infection within the guidelines of the Infection Control Policy.
• Have an understanding of Infection Prevention and use of Standard Precautions following Trust Infection Prevention policies.
• Provides skilled assistance in one or more core areas- scrub, anaesthetics and recovery duties to the level of core competencies.
• With appropriate experience and training, work flexibly across specialities.

Essential

• Qualified Registered Nurse / ODP with NMC/HCPC registration
