Job summary

Confidential is seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join a growing team near Colchester, Essex. You will handle preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies, along with bookkeeping, VAT returns and bank reconciliations.

You will support year-end work, process journals, and maintain accurate records while liaising with clients and assisting senior team members. AAT qualification or progress is preferred with 3–4 years in accounts.

Qualifications

• Be AAT qualified or nearing completion of AAT qualification.
• Have 3–4 years' experience in an accounts environment.
• Ideally have previous experience in an accountancy practice.
• Good understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
• Comfortable using accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Bookkeeping and maintenance of client accounts
• Preparation of VAT returns
• Bank reconciliations and control account reconciliations
• Assisting with year-end accounts and tax work
• Processing journals and maintaining accurate accounting records
• Liaising with clients and responding to accounting queries
• Supporting senior members of the team with a variety of client assignments
