Job summary

South West Water is seeking an Alarm Optimisation Technical Assistant to support a major rationalisation programme across Sewage Pumping Stations (SPS) and Sewage Treatment Works (STW). This fixed-term role covers a 1-year SPS phase, followed by a 1-year STW phase, with potential extension based on project outcomes.

You will analyse alarm configurations in the SCADA system, apply prioritisation and labelling, and produce reports using Power BI and other tools.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or equivalent experience in a technical discipline (e.g., Engineering, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Information Systems).
• Strong analytical and data management skills.
• Experience with SCADA or similar industrial control systems.
• Proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and data visualisation tools.
• Excellent attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

Responsibilities

• Data & Technical Support: Extract, review, and validate alarm configuration data using SCADA, Asset Data Portal, and other systems.
• Assist with Alarm Prioritisation, Labelling, and Optimisation processes.
• Document configuration changes and ensure alignment with standards.
• Reporting & Analysis: Use Power BI, Datamart, and Strumap for performance tracking.
• Produce reports on alarm distribution, nuisance alarms, and action rates.
• Identify anomalies and escalate technical issues as needed.
• Stakeholder Support: Provide admin and technical support during workshops and site reviews.
• Liaise with Waste Management and Pump/Treatment Managers to gather site info.
• Maintain communication with Control Room and field staff on progress.
• Project Delivery: Support milestones across SPS and STW sites.
• Maintain project docs, databases, and audit trails.
• Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement.
