Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL) is seeking an engineer to join its spacecraft AIT team to manufacture harnesses and test cables for various SSTL developments. You will implement harness designs during manufacture to meet electrical, grounding and environmental requirements, liaising with the systems team to resolve issues and provide EVT support.

• Qualifications include a minimum of an HNC/HND in engineering or science or demonstrable hands-on space industry experience.
• ECSS harness certification: ECSS-Q-ST-70-26 and ECSS-Q-ST-70-18 are required or highly preferred.

Key Purpose of Job

Working as part of spacecraft AIT team, manufacture the harness required for various STTL spacecraft developments

Key Tasks

All build activities required for the spacecraft harness manufactureImplementing the harness design during the manufacture process to meet all electrical, grounding and environmental requirementsLiaison with the spacecraft systems team to resolve issues and anomaliesProgress reportingSpacecraft test cable manufactureAssist with harness routing discussionsGeneral AIT and EVT support with possible overseas travelSupport training programmes for both internal and customer engineers

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications A minimum of HNC/HND in engineering or science discipline or demonstrable hands‑on experience in the space industry ESA Harness Certification:ECSS-Q-ST-70-26 (Crimping of high reliability electrical connections)ECSS-Q-ST-70-18 (Preparation, assembly and mounting of RF coaxial cables).

• Requirements of this post are to hold, or have held in the last 5 years, an EU based personal Security clearance and to be a citizen of one of the member states of the European Union or the Schengen association countriesExperience All aspects of harness and cable manufacture Working with spacecraft flight hardware during design, development and implementation phases.
• Working with verification / validation of requirements Good, all round electrical, mechanical & electronics background Experience of working in cleanroom conditions preferredKnowledge & Skills Execute work and inspection regime to recognised standards Proven, practical, hands‑on ability for both flight build and ground and development testing tasks Good team working skills, together with the ability to interface with others at all levels.
• Strong attention to detail is essential Good communication skills are required Must be prepared to work irregular hours and weekends during peak workload periods.
• Ability to fly out to support overseas work is required A flexible and pragmatic attitude to work, planning and interactions with others is required.
