Role Overview:

The core purpose of this role is to deliver a safe, efficient, and resilient Baggage System—one of the three major flows within the Airport (the others being aircraft and passenger). This involves full accountability for the Baggage Systems to ensure high levels of safety, reliability, and availability of this critical infrastructure.

The role requires strong leadership of the maintenance team and effective management of third parties and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and develop the Baggage Engineering team of highly skilled Technicians to deliver the maintenance plan.
• Ensure optimal performance of the Baggage asset base, including performance improvements to enhance system availability against OBP / CSS metrics.
• Promote EH&S culture across all teams to reduce incidents and foster a safe working environment.
• Communicate effectively and produce reports for stakeholders such as GAL teams, Airlines, and handling agents to enable smooth operations.
• Manage costs and contracts to ensure operational budget adherence.

Candidate Requirements:

• Degree level education in an engineering discipline preferred; HND level with significant experience accepted.
• Proven proactive leadership to promote health and safety culture, ensuring processes and procedures protect employees and contractors.
• Ability to lead, manage, and develop the baggage team to meet Gatwick's strategic priorities.
• Experience ensuring system performance meets and exceeds OBP and CSS measures.
• Experience leading failure investigations to determine root causes impacting baggage systems and operations.
