Engineering Manager – Baggage

Salary: From £59,795 + £4,750 Flex Allowance + Up to 20% Bonus + Benefits

Role overview

The core purpose of this role is to deliver a safe, efficient, and resilient Baggage System—one of the three major flows within the Airport (others being aircraft and passenger). This involves taking full accountability for the Baggage Systems to ensure high levels of safety, reliability, and availability of this critical infrastructure.

The role requires strong leadership of the maintenance team and effective management of third parties and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Baggage Engineering team of highly skilled Technicians to deliver maintenance plans.
• Ensure optimal performance of the Baggage asset base, including performance improvements to enhance system availability against OBP / CSS metrics.
• Promote EH&S culture across all teams to reduce incidents and ensure a safe working environment.
• Produce effective communication and reports for stakeholders such as GAL teams, Airlines, and handling agents to enable smooth operations.
• Manage costs and contracts to ensure operational budgets are met.

Candidate requirements

• Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline preferred; HND level with significant experience accepted.
• Proven proactive leadership to promote health and safety culture, ensuring processes protect employees and contractors.
• Experience in leading, managing, and developing baggage systems teams to meet strategic priorities.
• Ability to ensure system performance meets and exceeds OBP and CSS measures.
• Experience leading failure investigations to determine root causes related to baggage system and operational impacts.
