Job summary

Morson Edge is recruiting a UAS Mechanical Production Technician for a busy Fareham site. You will join a specialist team handling unmanned aircraft, payloads and ground support equipment through assembly, testing and pre-delivery preparation.

Role requires hands-on work on mechanical systems, with close interaction with engineers, operators, customers and suppliers to ensure safe, reliable serviceability and documentation for each build.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics or a related discipline.
• Practical experience in mechanical assembly, inspection, testing, fault-finding and repair.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics and maintenance instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and a safety-focused approach.
• Experience working within controlled procedures and safe systems of work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Competent using standard computer systems and electronic records.
• Eligibility to obtain and retain any required security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, repair, replace, adjust and align metallic and composite components.
• Build mechanical assemblies using drawings, technical documentation and work instructions.
• Carry out functional checks and pre-delivery inspections.
• Read and interpret CAD drawings, diagrams, technical manuals and work orders.
• Fault-find and troubleshoot mechanical systems including fuel, landing gear, rotor systems, stabilisers and powerplant systems.
• Support payload integration, aircraft rigging and pre-delivery checks.
• Maintain production equipment, tools and test equipment.
• Complete accurate build, inspection, test, maintenance and defect records.
• Maintain strong tool control and FOD prevention.

Rate: £23.88 PAYE / £31.85 Umbrella
Contract: 3 months initially, with potential extension
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Overtime: Available, with weekends by discussion

The Role

We are currently recruiting for a UAS Mechanical Production Technician to join a specialist production team based in Fareham.

This is a hands-on role working on unmanned aircraft, payloads and associated ground support equipment, supporting the assembly, integration, testing, maintenance and repair of mechanical systems through to pre-delivery.

You will work closely with engineers, operators, customers and suppliers to ensure equipment is built, tested and prepared to a safe, reliable and serviceable standard.

What will you be doing?

Essential Skills

• Practical experience in mechanical assembly, inspection, testing, fault-finding and repair.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience working with UAS/unmanned aircraft.
• Aerospace, aviation, defence, automotive or other safety-critical engineering experience.
• Experience with mechanical systems, aircraft rigging or powerplant systems.
• Knowledge of configuration control, human factors or quality management.
• HNC/HND in an engineering discipline.
• Full UK driving licence.

Working Environment

The role is primarily site-based and may involve working in workshops, hangars, airfields and outdoor test environments.

You may be required to work early starts, late finishes or occasional weekends depending on production and delivery requirements. The role can involve standing, walking, bending, climbing, working at height or in confined areas, with appropriate PPE and training provided where required.
