Job summary

Thurrock Council is seeking an experienced professional to manage local air quality responsibilities, ensuring statutory deadlines are met and the air quality monitoring network is effectively operated.

The role requires advanced Pollution Control expertise, confident presentation skills for high-level meetings, and the ability to respond to complex enquiries from officials and the public. Hybrid working opportunities are available along with a strong focus on training and development.

Qualifications

• Must hold Environmental Health BSc, MSc or relevant Pollution Control qualification.
• Direct experience in local air quality management required; otherwise not shortlisted.
• DBS check at Standard Level is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform all statutory duties of the Council related to local air quality management.
• Manage the air quality monitoring network and implement the Air Quality Action Plan.
• Attend high-level meetings and provide complex responses to enquiries from senior officers and the public.
• Provide air quality responses to planning consultations and maintain monitoring equipment.
• Communicate complex scientific information clearly, organise work efficiently, and maintain database systems and reports.
