Job summary

Thurrock Council in Thurrock is seeking a qualified Environmental Health professional to lead the local air quality management program. You will perform statutory duties, manage the monitoring network, and ensure deadlines are met while advising on complex cases within the service area.

The role requires excellent written and verbal communication of scientific information, strong organisation, and robust database skills.

Qualifications

• You must hold an Environmental Health BSc, MSc or relevant Pollution Control scientific qualification.
• Experience with local air quality management is essential; without direct experience you may not be shortlisted.

Job description

The post holder will be responsible for performing all statutory duties of the Council in relation to local air quality management. They will ensure that statutory deadlines are met, manage the air quality monitoring network, implement the Air Quality Action Plan and advise on complex cases related to their service area.

The post holder will answer relevant service requests and collate high level complaint responses to ensure relevant government and departmental deadlines are met. You will provide air quality responses to planning consultations. You will be competent in the use and effective maintenance of relevant scientific and technical monitoring equipment.

You must be highly proficient at communicating complex, nuanced scientific information to a variety of audiences. You will also have the ability to effectively organise and time manage your work. You will need comprehensive computer skills and an understanding of database management. Excellent report writing skills are also essential for this role.

Essential Qualifications:

You must hold an Environmental Health BSc, MSc or relevant Pollution Control scientific qualification.

Those without direct experience of local air quality management will not be shortlisted for this role.
