We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Air Quality Consultant. We are seeking candidates who are looking to work on some of the largest and most interesting air quality and carbon projects in the UK. The position is permanent with the opportunity for hybrid home/office working with a base in Epsom, Birmingham or Manchester.

The Air Quality and Emissions team is part of an award-winning, multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy practice, providing air quality consultancy and emissions management services in connection with a wide range of land development, transport and energy clients. We work for local and national governments, multi-national industrial clients, funding agencies and lenders, property developers, infrastructure contractors and regulatory authorities.

We are seeking someone who prides themselves on delivering technically excellent work, with high reporting standards and who embraces innovative approaches to assessment. You will work on desk and field-based air quality, dust, odour impact assessments for planning applications, emissions calculations and dispersion modelling, action planning and mitigation for air and carbon emissions, specialist services for environmental permit applications and Environmental Impact Assessments, and technical advisory services including developing guidance and tools. You will be expected to lead tasks and provide technical support to those working on them with you. You will work as part of a team of professionals across the business, to provide an integrated service to our clients.

The role will include:

  1. Designing and undertaking air quality surveys, analysing and interpreting data.
  2. Producing air quality, dust, odour and carbon assessments for a range of infrastructure projects.
  3. Advising on and identifying solutions for mitigating effects of air pollution and carbon emissions.
  4. Preparing and delivering a range of reports.
  5. Managing own workload and that of others within defined budgets and programmes.
  6. Providing input to bids and business development activities to secure work for the team.
  7. Continuous development of technical and digital skills.

About you:

Ideally, you would have the following qualifications and/or attributes:

  1. Higher degree qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific subject.
  2. Knowledge of a range of air quality and carbon issues including relevant policies and standards.
  3. Experience of a range of modelling and assessment techniques.
  4. Experience of analysing and interpreting data using spreadsheet and GIS based tools.
  5. Experience of reporting and presenting to different stakeholders.
  6. Proficient in standard IT applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  7. An understanding of the importance of health and safety risk management.
  8. A full valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel for surveys.

Desirable but not essential:

  1. Prior experience of working in air quality consultancy.
  2. Experience of preparing emission inventories for dispersion models.
  3. Experience of using statistical analysis packages and/or computer programming language.
  4. Experience of working with other environmental specialisms.
  5. Experience of working unsupervised on site.
  6. Experience of project management.
