Job summary

The City of Liverpool College is seeking a dedicated Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Skills Development Coach to support apprentices in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Heat Pumps programmes. You will conduct workplace assessments, deliver underpinning knowledge, and manage administrative duties to ensure timely progression.

Role requires strong communication, flexible hours including evenings, and a valid driving licence.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Heat Pumps qualification is essential.
  • Effective communicator with ability to engage learners, tutors and employers.
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings when required.
  • Hold a current driving licence and have access to own vehicle.
  • Understanding of safeguarding for young people and vulnerable adults.
  • Experience with Health & Safety responsibilities and compliance.

Description

We are opening up our Talent pool for Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heat Pumps Specialists – a dedicated initiative led by our Apprenticeships Development to guide and empower the next generation of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) and Refrigeration professionals. As the industry continues to evolve with advances in technology, energy efficiency, and sustainability, there is a growing demand for Skills Coaches who can meet these challenges with expertise and innovation.

The Role

To support training, learning and assessment on a range of high quality, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Heat Pumps apprenticeship standards, commercial training and the associated administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. To develop, maintain and account manage relationships with local employers.
  2. To deliver high quality apprenticeships by carrying out workplace assessment and delivering underpinning knowledge and training within the refrigeration workshop.
  3. To provide ongoing training and assessment so learners are fully prepared for their End Point Assessment.
  4. To screen potential new employers to ensure they have a clear understanding of the obligations in respect of apprentices and at the same time complete appropriate paperwork.
  5. To ensure that all employers are able to offer sufficient opportunities for apprentices to develop their skills and demonstrate their competency in all areas.
  6. To take an active part in the recruitment of new apprentices through contact with local employers – managing key accounts, schools and through events. You will be responsible for securing a caseload sufficient to hit your targets.
  7. To complete all required information under the projects to include Initial Assessment and Individual Learning Plan for each apprentice and to regularly review progress against this with the apprentice and their employer to ensure that they remain on track to achieve their qualification timely and to provide swift intervention where students are at risk of falling behind.
  8. To ensure that you achieve all targets within the agreed timescale.
  9. Ensure timely, accurate and comprehensive progression, performance and target information is maintained using the College’s e-portfolio (Smart Assessor) system for apprenticeship delivery.
  10. To lead plumbing and gas course review, lead internal verification and manage external verification procedures within the area alongside Head of Quality.
  11. To undertake all other duties that are appropriate to the role and may be required from time to time.
  12. Maintain accurate records of all activity and contacts in line with GDPR and the college Data Protection Policy.
  13. To take proactive responsibility for Health & Safety to ensure that a safe working environment and safe working practices are maintained at all times.
  14. To support cross college activities as required in particular the key enrolment and invigilation periods.
Generic Duties
  1. Help to ensure through good working practices that the objectives, values and aims of IT Services and equipment and
  2. To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College Group ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of college life.
  3. To take proactive responsibility for Health & Safety to ensure that a safe working environment and safe working practices are always maintained.
  4. To comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
  5. To support cross college activities as required, such as organizing events or assisting with enrolment.
  6. To understand roles and responsibilities around safeguarding all learners and contribute to maintaining a safe learning environment.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential criteria
  1. Level 3 Refrigeration, Air Conditioning & Heat Pumps qualification.
  2. Is an effective communicator, able to deal successfully with all levels of management, apprentices, tutors and employers.
  3. Is willing to work flexibly, including evenings when required.
  4. Is conversant with current assessment procedures and able to assess up to Level 3.
  5. Holds a current driving license and has access to their own vehicle.
  6. Understanding of their responsibilities relating to the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.
  7. Understanding of equal opportunities and a positive attitude towards them.
  8. Be aware of, and maintain compliance with, all school and college requirements relating to Health and Safety.
Desirable criteria
  1. Relevant assessor qualifications internal verifier (e.g. A1/V or TAQA) with a relevant teaching qualification.
  2. English & Maths GCSE or equivalent or equivalent
