Job summary

Invecta in London is seeking an AI Solutions Engineer to design, build and deploy AI-enabled workflows in underwriting and related insurance processes. You will be one of the first engineers in a team still forming, with real scope to decide tools, standards and the approach the capability grows around.

You’ll join a small, high-ownership team that has already used AI to redesign core workflows, including submission intake and automated pricing.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate tools and approaches, reducing reliance on third-party partners where possible.
• Translate unclear problems into practical AI-enabled solutions and ensure regulatory alignment.
• Collaborate with engineering, data, architecture and security teams to deliver safely.

AI Solutions Engineer | London/ Hybrid | Permanent | Specialty Insurance

We are exclusively partnered with a specialist insurer in the London Market to appoint an AI Solutions Engineer.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll build AI capabilities that change how the business works, starting with underwriting workflows. You’ll be one of the first engineers in a team still taking shape, with real scope to decide the tools, standards and approach the capability grows around.

The opportunity

You’ll join a small, high-ownership team that has already used AI to redesign core workflows, including submission intake and automated pricing.

This is not a research role or a strategy role, you’ll build, deploy and own what you create.

You’ll work on real business problems, the team will give you the insurance context and space to focus on building as you settle in. Over time you’ll work more directly with underwriters and the wider business.

What you will do

• Design, build and deploy AI-enabled workflow and decision-support tools, from first version through to production
• Use AI-assisted and agentic tools to generate code, specifications and designs, rather than writing everything by hand
• Put the foundations in place, including security, guardrails and evaluation, so AI can be used safely at scale
• Assess and recommend tools and approaches, and help the business rely less on third-party partners, or hold them to a higher technical standard
• Turn unclear problems into practical solutions, and work out which regulations apply and how to meet them
• Work with engineering, data, architecture and security colleagues to deliver safely

What we are looking for

• Hands-on experience, starting as a data engineer, data scientist or software engineer
• Strong in one core discipline, with enough DevOps, cloud, front-end or data engineering knowledge to work out the rest yourself
• Recent experience building and deploying LLM or AI solutions in real environments
• A habit of using AI tools in your own engineering work
• Comfortable with ambiguity, changing priorities and imperfect requirements, and able to make progress without waiting for clarity
• Good judgement with stakeholders: able to reassure people while steering towards the right solution

Experience in one or more of the following is required

• Forward deployed engineering, applied AI engineering, or client-facing engineering at an AI consultancy, lab or startup
• Cloud engineering (AWS, Azure or GCP) and modern development practices

Insurance experience is not required, the team already has deep business knowledge and will help you learn the context.

Curiosity, practical problem solving and a willingness to learn matter most.
