Tessl, a London-based AI-native development startup, seeks a Research Engineer for the AI Research team. You will shape the outer loop of agent systems, harmonizing model behavior, evaluation, data pipelines, and failure analysis.

You’ll work close to customers, prioritizing impact and real workflows to guide research priorities. You'll report to the AI Research Lead and collaborate with engineering, product, and design.

Qualifikationen

• 4+ years shipping AI/ML products in a startup or applied industry setting.
• Demonstrated depth in at least one of the four skill areas above.
• Strong product and customer instincts: comfort joining customer calls and watching sessions.
• Sharp evaluation judgement: benchmarks, vibes, and prototypes where appropriate.
• Experience building datasets for evaluation or training, including pipeline work.
• Deeply curious about agents and excited about reshaping how software is built.

Aufgaben

• Sit in on customer sessions to understand agent failures, design evals, and drive fixes to shipped improvements.
• Close a piece of the outer loop end to end: production signal in, dataset out, eval scored, harness changed, metric moved.
• Own a slice of our eval infrastructure: dataset curation, harness config, runner, analysis, and engineering comms.
• Prototype a new harness or context configuration and measure its impact on real customer tasks.
• Analyze agent traces, build tooling to interpret them, and brief the team on findings.
• Collaborate with product and engineering on near-term shipping problems by applying research rigor.
• Review recent papers and translate transferable ideas into concrete experiments.
