Job summary

Wave Group in London is hiring an AI Platform Engineer to design the foundations for a scalable, secure platform powering real-time payment intelligence. You will shape platform and infrastructure culture for a fast-moving engineering team building with top financial institutions.

The role emphasizes reliability, observability, security-by-default and rapid, safe deployment. Expect ownership of IaC, incident response and ML-powered observability to enable growth.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years in platform/DevOps/SRE at an early-stage startup with ownership
• Strong Terraform/IaC experience on real production infrastructure
• Deep cloud infrastructure experience (GCP a strong plus)
• Proven observability track record for distributed systems
• Software engineering background in Python or Go
• Incident response experience and runbooks/processes
• Security foundations—least-privilege access and secure-by-default infra
• CI/CD pipelines with velocity and rollback safety
• Hands-on exposure to agentic AI frameworks (LangChain / LangGraph) within last year
• Fintech or regulated-industry experience
• Observability/reliability for non-deterministic or ML-powered systems
• Experience with ISO27001 / SOC 2 frameworks
• Experience with Temporal or similar workflow engines
• Track record of bootstrapping a platform/DevOps function from scratch

Responsibilities

• Owning the reliability and operability of production systems—monitoring, alerting, incident response and post-incident learning
• Maintaining and evolving the infrastructure-as-code estate to enable safe shipping
• Securing infrastructure defaults so the safe path is the default
• Designing observability across the stack—metrics, traces, logs, dashboards and alerts (including AI-agent behavior)
• Driving incident response maturity from detection to resolution and follow-up
• Building platform capabilities that unblock engineering teams—deployment pipelines, release tooling, developer experience
• Building guardrails and automation (AI-assisted triage/response) to move fast without breaking things
• Supporting evolution from stability to scalability as the company grows
