Job summary

Barclays UK is seeking an AI Platform Engineer to shape the technology behind critical business services. You will develop and optimise scalable platforms, leveraging modern engineering practices to support millions of interactions daily.

The role focuses on building and operating secure Kubernetes platforms, cloud infrastructure across AWS/Azure, and AI/LLM-based services with governance and cost awareness. Knutsford/Glasgow/Manchester are key locations.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating secure, scalable Kubernetes platforms.
• Cloud engineering across AWS and/or Azure.
• Experience deploying AI agents or LLM-based services.
• Design, automate and support cloud infrastructure and services.
• Experience with AI guardrails, monitoring and governance.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate scalable Kubernetes platforms.
• Deploy and manage AI agents / LLM services, with monitoring and governance.
• Design and automate cloud infrastructure and services across AWS/Azure.
• Develop self-service platform capabilities and reusable templates.
• Monitor AI workload consumption and optimize cloud costs.

Job description

Shape the technology behind critical business services. We're looking for an AI Platform Engineer to develop and optimise software platforms, leveraging modern engineering practices to deliver resilient, scalable, and high-performing capabilities that support millions of interactions every day.

To be successful as an AI Platform Engineer, you should have experience with:

• Good experience building, deploying and operating secure, scalable Kubernetes platforms.
• Cloud engineering across AWS and/or Azure
• Practical experience designing, automating and supporting cloud infrastructure and services.
• Experience deploying and operating AI agents or LLM-based services, ideally using Amazon Bedrock, including monitoring, governance, quality assurance and agentic workflows across the software delivery lifecycle.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

• OpenShift
• Experience building or operating platforms using OpenShift or a similar enterprise Kubernetes distribution.
• Agent security, observability, and evaluation: Knowledge of AI guardrails, evaluation frameworks, identity, access control, monitoring and operational assurance.
• Knowledge of agent evaluation, guardrails, identity, access control, monitoring and operational assurance.
• CI/CD, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code and automation
• Experience building automated delivery pipelines, reusable platform capabilities and self-service deployment workflows.
• Experience building self-service platform capabilities, reusable templates, golden paths and developer enablement tooling.
• Experience monitoring and optimising AI workload consumption, platform usage and cloud costs.
