Job summary

MRJ Recruitment Limited seeks an AI Platform Engineer in Manchester City Centre (on-site) to build the platform behind our conversational AI products and broader AI initiatives. You will work across LLMs, RAG, vector search and Azure Foundry, delivering production-ready AI infrastructure.

The role emphasizes reliability, scalability and operating AI systems in production, with a strong Azure focus and Terraform-based infrastructure. You will collaborate with AI, DevOps and security teams.

Qualifications

• Production environments experience in software/platform/infrastructure engineering.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native services.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Experience with RAG, LLM integrations, retrieval pipelines or AI-enabled platforms.
• Experience with vector databases or search technologies such as OpenSearch.
• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and deploying containerised applications.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and production data workflows, including Azure Data Factory.

Responsibilities

• Build and optimise production RAG pipelines, retrieval systems and LLM orchestration.
• Develop scalable, reusable AI platform components to support current and future products.
• Work with Microsoft Foundry and Azure cloud services to deploy and operate AI solutions.
• Improve performance, accuracy, latency and reliability of AI workloads.
• Build and maintain infrastructure using Terraform and containerised applications.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines and automate data ingestion, embedding generation and vector index maintenance.
• Implement monitoring, logging and tracing for visibility into performance, usage and cost.
• Improve security, governance and evaluation processes across AI systems.
• Collaborate with AI Engineering, DevOps and Security teams to take prototypes to production.

AI Platform Engineer | Manchester City Centre (on-site) | Up to £100,000

I'm working with a leading technology business looking for an AI Platform Engineer to help build and scale the platform behind its conversational AI products and wider AI initiatives.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on taking AI solutions beyond proof of concept and making them reliable, scalable and production-ready. You'll be working across LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector search and cloud infrastructure, helping build the foundations that will support multiple AI-powered products.

The role has a strong Microsoft Azure focus, including Microsoft Foundry, and would suit someone who combines solid software or platform engineering experience with a genuine interest in building and operating AI systems in production.

What you'll be doing:

• Experience with vector databases or search technologies such as OpenSearch.
• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and deploying containerised applications.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and production data workflows, including Azure Data Factory.
• A solid understanding of APIs, microservices and cloud-native architecture.
• A focus on reliability, scalability, performance and operational excellence.
