Job summary

The Citation Group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Wilmslow with remote options across the UK. This hands-on role sits at the heart of a major platform transformation, moving to CI/CD, team-owned components, and AI-native engineering.

You will influence how features are built, tested, and deployed while improving code quality and security. You will work closely with a Tech Lead, contribute to architectural decisions, and help shape an engineering culture that emphasizes high standards,

Qualifications

• Proven ability to deliver complex features on production systems.
• Strong full-stack capability across backend and frontend.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
• Experience with cloud platforms and containerisation.

Responsibilities

• Write production-quality code every day across the full stack, including backend, frontend and infrastructure.
• Own features from design through deployment, delivering working software in increments.
• Contribute to technical design and architecture discussions with practical input.
• Run spikes and proofs-of-concept to explore approaches before committing.
• Manage technical debt responsibly and keep the codebase clean.
• Decompose shared services into team-owned components and deliver them with care.
• Support CI/CD movement, write tests and adopt trunk-based development.
• Build with observability in mind: instrumentation, logging and monitoring.
• Contribute to DevOps capabilities and operational ownership of your services.
• Write secure, testable code and practice test-driven development with AI-assisted scaffolding.
• Review code actively and maintain high engineering standards.
