Job summary

Elsevier is seeking an AI Governance Director to own the end-to-end governance framework for AI and model governance within the Data Science function. You will provide strategic leadership to ensure responsible AI development and deployment, balancing regulatory compliance, risk, and business outcomes.

You will partner with Legal, Compliance, Privacy and Information Security, define standards, drive automation, and oversee audits and regulatory interactions to advance governance capabilities

Qualifications

• Significant experience in AI/model governance, risk management, or related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of AI governance regulations and frameworks (EU AI Act, ISO 42001 or similar).
• Proven ability to design and operate governance processes for AI/ML in production.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end AI and model governance framework for Data Science.
• Define standards for model risk classification, approvals, documentation and monitoring.
• Set strategic roadmap for AI governance tools and processes.
• Ensure compliance with AI regulations and standards (EU AI Act, GDPR).
• Partner with Legal, Compliance, Privacy and InfoSec to maintain policies.
• Act as key contact for audits, regulators, customers and industry forums.
• Establish governance metrics, reporting, model inventory oversight and operational measures.
• Lead and develop governance capability and training across the organization.
