Laing O'Rourke is seeking an AI & DfMA Computational Designer to explore how AI, computational design and parametric methods can enhance design for manufacture and assembly in modern construction. You will work with design, engineering and digital teams to identify opportunities, test ideas and deliver practical solutions for live infrastructure projects.

You do not need to be an AI expert; an interest in emerging tech and experience in DfMA and digital design are valued.

Competenze

• Experience in DfMA, product development, computational design or industrialised construction.
• Experience of BIM and digital design processes.
• Understanding of computational design, design automation or parametric modelling.
• Understanding of how construction products are designed, manufactured and assembled.
• Interest in AI and emerging digital technologies, with willingness to continue learning.
• Collaborative and practical approach to problem-solving and systems thinking.
• Ability to identify opportunities, test ideas and communicate learning clearly.
• Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Product Design, Computational Design or related discipline, or equivalent experience.

• Identify useful and responsible applications of AI across product design, development, manufacturing and construction.
• Research emerging AI technologies and assess where they add value within DfMA and computational design.
• Explore existing design processes with users, identifying AI-enabled improvements.
• Develop and test early prototypes using available tools with support from specialist teams.
• Explore applications across parametric modelling, design optimisation, BIM, product configuration and digital manufacturing.
• Investigate how AI could capture and reuse product, design and construction knowledge.
• Collaborate with engineering, digital, manufacturing and AI specialists to test and learn from new ideas.
• Capture and share learning to build an AI & DfMA roadmap for Product Development.
• Demonstrate potential applications on live projects and contribute to future development.
