Job summary

Emponics seeks a Senior AI & Automation Engineer to lead the design and delivery of large-scale automation and AI-driven tooling across Azure and Oracle Cloud, shaping infrastructure as code and resilient recovery strategies.

You will mentor engineers, promote secure development practices, and drive an AI-first, automation-first culture while delivering scalable automation solutions and AI agents.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in automation and cloud engineering.
• Hands-on automation and scripting across multiple languages.
• Advanced IaC across Azure and OCI (Terraform, Bicep).
• Proven design and delivery of CI/CD and automation solutions.
• Experience building and operating AI/LLM-assisted tooling or agents.
• Strong security, identity (Entra/IAM) and secrets management.
• Understanding of resilience, DR and recovery objectives (RTO/RPO, failover).
• Track record mentoring engineers and leading technical work.

Job description

Our client based in Newcastle with a three days in office two from home arrangement seek an experienced AI & Automation Engineer .They are a global growing business providing software services to deliver integrated business management solutions designing and delivering integrated ERP solutions to their distribution trade customers .

( salary £70000 but could be some flexibility upwards for the right person )

They are looking for new ways of working automation , they have their own LLMs . Previous experience of an Azure migration would be very much of interest , relaxed work environment , looking for a techy , they will ask me your level of automation experience , as looking for hands on in that area and will ask what migration you have worked on and any mentoring you’ve been involved with .

This is based out of their Newcastle office , or their Yorkshire office , which ever suits best but main colleagues are based in Newcastle .

This is a senior technical leadership role within their AI & Automation team, where you'll help shape how they use automation, Infrastructure as Code, and AI across Azure and Oracle Cloud environments. The focus is on designing and delivering large-scale automation solutions, AI agents, and cloud engineering improvements that reduce manual effort, improve resilience, and speed up recovery, while also mentoring other engineers and driving adoption of AI-first ways of working. We're looking for someone with strong hands-on experience in cloud automation, Terraform/Pulumi, CI/CD, scripting, security, and AI-powered tooling who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and influencing engineering standards across the organisation

As a technical lead you will be within their shared-service AI and automation team, which provides AI capabilities, automation and tooling to Cloud Operations and associated teams across both Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

The Senior AI & Automation Engineer designs and delivers complex automation, Infrastructure as Code and domain-specific AI agents, and sets the technical direction for how they industrialise provisioning and improve recovery times across their online products and services.

The role mentors engineers, leads by example on security and quality, and drives the adoption of an AI-first, automation-first approach through influence, knowledge-share and training. You would identify where automation and Infrastructure as Code will deliver the greatest resilience and efficiency gains.

Experience

• 10 years' experience +
• Extensive hands-on automation and scripting experience across multiple languages
• Advanced Infrastructure as Code across Azure and OCI (Terraform, Bicep)
• Proven design and delivery of CI/CD and automation solutions
• Experience building and operating AI / LLM-assisted tooling or agents
• Strong grasp of security, identity (Microsoft Entra / IAM) and secrets management
• Understanding of resilience, DR and recovery objectives (RTO/RPO, failover)
• A track record of mentoring engineers and leading technical work

Nice to have

• Experience applying FinOps to optimise cloud cost through automation
• Familiarity with ISO 27001, SOC 2 or GDPR control expectations
• Experience contributing to engineering standards or reusable patterns
• Curiousity about how AI can enhance productivity, decision-making and customer outcomes, open to learning and adapting .
