Programme title:AI and Data Science Graduate Apprenticeship – Data Analytics

Location:Rosyth, Scotland

Our 4-year AI and Data Science Graduate Apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to contribute to some of the UK’s most important defence programmes, all while working towards a BSc (Hons) degree and building a rewarding career in Data Analytics.

About the programme

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience supporting major programmes, including the Royal Navy’s Type 31 frigates and the UK Submarine Dismantling Programme. You’ll contribute to the delivery, maintenance, and transformation of some of the UK’s most advanced naval platforms while developing an understanding of how data and analytics support decision‑making across complex, large‑scale programmes.

Your work will help optimise operations, reduce risk, and enhance the performance of critical assets. You’ll explore the full data lifecycle, from sourcing and cleansing datasets to identifying trends and presenting insights through clear, compelling visualisations. This could involve building Power BI reports, carrying out statistical analysis, or creating dashboards that help teams monitor performance, make informed decisions, and identify opportunities for greater efficiency.

You’ll gain valuable experience with our enterprise systems and contribute to projects that enhance how data is captured, managed, and used across the business. Depending on your placement, you may also support the development of customer‑facing applications and data solutions using Palantir Foundry, enabling smarter, faster decision‑making.

Working alongside experienced colleagues and supported by dedicated mentors, you’ll quickly build your confidence and capability. You’ll learn how to communicate insights effectively, challenge assumptions with evidence, and bring fresh perspectives to complex problems. From driving innovation to influencing decision‑making, you’ll play a meaningful role in shaping the future of our programmes and the way we work.

Your education/training

As part of your apprenticeship, you'll study towards a BSc (Hons) in AI and Data Science through Glasgow Caledonian University, combining academic learning with practical experience in the workplace.

Our apprenticeship programme follows the proven 70:20:10 development model, giving you the ideal balance of experience, support and formal learning:

  • 70% workplace experience: Rotate through placements and contribute to real projects and programmes.
  • 20% coaching and mentoring: Learn from experienced professionals who will guide and support your development.
  • 10% formal learning: Work towards a recognised postgraduate qualification alongside your role.

By the end of the programme, you'll have developed a strong foundation in AI and Data Science disciplines, practical business knowledge, and the skills needed to build a successful long‑term career in Data Analytics.

Upon successful completion of the programme, you'll be ready to step into a Data Analyst or Continuous Improvement role, with a competitive salary of up to £39,000.

From there, your development doesn’t stop. Through the Babcock Role Framework, you’ll have a clear view of how your career can progress, with mapped‑out pathways, development opportunities and the tools you need to get wherever you want to go.

What you’ll need

  • Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 in a related subject (equivalent to two Highers at B), in combination with SQA Highers.
  • You must be resident in Scotland, as Graduate Apprenticeships are only available to individuals living and working in Scotland.
  • This role requires on‑site attendance. By your start date, you must be able to reliably commute to the site. This will normally require living within a reasonable commuting distance of Rosyth or relocating before you join us.
