Job summary

SGS is seeking an Agricultural Trials officer to lead field studies in the UK. You will manage trials from setup through harvest, supervise seasonal teams, and interact with growers and clients to ensure GLP and GEP standards are met.

The role combines science and project management with hands-on field work. A degree in Agriculture or related field, and UK driving licence are preferred; PA1/PA6 qualifications are advantageous.

Qualifications

• GLP and/or GEP field trials experience.
• Experience as Principal Investigator.
• Strong client-facing and project management skills.
• PA1 & PA6 qualifications and a full UK driving licence.
• Degree in Agriculture, Crop Science, Life Sciences, or related field preferred.
• Independent, proactive field worker with ability to work alone.

Responsibilities

• Oversee agricultural field trials across the UK from setup to harvest.
• Act as Principal Investigator on single and multi-site studies.
• Liaise with clients and provide study updates.
• Mark out, assess, sample, and harvest trial plots.
• Analyze and report trial data using specialist software.
• Lead and train technicians and seasonal staff.
• Conduct sustainability audits and support continuous improvement.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining science, agriculture, project management, and client engagement. You'll oversee field studies from setup through to harvest, lead seasonal teams, work closely with growers and clients, and ensure trials are delivered to the highest GLP and GEP standards.

What You'll Be Doing as an Agricultural Trials officer:

• Managing and delivering agricultural field trials across the UK.
• Acting as Principal Investigator on both single and multi-site studies.
• Liaising directly with clients and providing study updates.
• Marking out, assessing, sampling, and harvesting trial plots.
• Analysing and reporting trial data using specialist software.
• Leading and training technicians and seasonal staff.
• Conducting sustainability audits and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

We're looking for someone who already has strong experience within agricultural research and field trials. You may currently be working as a Study Manager, Principal Investigator, Trial Officer, Field Trials Manager, Research Agronomist, or a senior field-based agricultural research professional.

You’ll bring:

• Experience in GLP and/or GEP field trials.
• Experience acting as a Principal Investigator.
• Strong client-facing and project management skills.
• PA1 & PA6 qualifications and a full UK driving licence.
• A degree in Agriculture, Crop Science, Plant Science, Life Sciences, or a related discipline is preferred.
• A practical, proactive approach and confidence working independently in the field.
• A full UK driving licence.
