Job description

AFRS Vetting Administrator
Band 7 / £25,000 - £27,000 (dependent on experience)

Hybrid - Solihull, B91 3QJ
Full Time, Permanent

Here at Serco, we're looking for AFRS Vetting Administrators to join our team supporting the recruitment of candidates into the UK Armed Forces. (Add AFRS Acronym)

This is an important role where you'll be responsible for administering the end-to-end vetting process, ensuring all required checks are completed accurately, securely and within agreed service levels. You'll manage an allocated caseload, work directly with candidates to progress their checks and maintain accurate, auditable records throughout the process.

Working as part of the AFRS Vetting Team, you'll play a key role in supporting compliant and timely recruitment outcomes, while handling sensitive personal and security-related information with the highest levels of care and confidentiality.

This role is dedicated to vetting activity and does not include onboarding responsibilities.

As part of this you'll:
  • Manage an allocated caseload from receipt through to vetting outcome, prioritising activity in line with recruitment demand, candidate intake dates and service levels.
  • Administer applicable BPSS and UKSV requirements for Armed Forces candidates, following MOD, Armed Forces, contractual and Serco guidance.
  • Complete identity, Right to Work, criminality, employment and activity-history checks, references, gap checks and other required screening activity.
  • Review forms, documents and information for completeness, accuracy and consistency, identifying discrepancies and requesting further evidence where required.
  • Use a range of systems and portals, including Access Screening, PEGA and UKSV systems, to maintain accurate and fully auditable records.
  • Provide clear, professional and timely updates to candidates, helping them understand what is required and minimising avoidable delays.
  • Respond to routine queries from candidates, recruitment teams, partners and other authorised stakeholders.
  • Identify complex, sensitive or non-standard cases and elevate these appropriately to the Team Manager or relevant specialist.
  • Work to agreed quality, productivity and turnaround targets, maintaining a high level of accuracy in a high-volume environment.
  • Support quality checks, training and continuous improvement activity, helping to improve the efficiency and candidate experience of the vetting process.
What you'll need to do the role:
  • Proven administration experience in a high-volume, process-led environment, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and an allocated workload.
  • Confident using multiple systems and accurate data entry, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain requirements and manage queries sensitively.
  • The ability to follow detailed procedures and apply defined criteria consistently, while recognising when a matter needs to be escalated.
  • A strong understanding of confidentiality and the importance of handling personal and security-sensitive information appropriately.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a strong sense of personal ownership for quality and timely completion of work.
  • The ability to work collaboratively, respond positively to feedback and remain effective when workloads, systems or processes change.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, building positive working relationships and contributing to shared objectives.
Desirable:
  • Experience in vetting, pre-employment screening, recruitment administration, security administration or another regulated processing environment.
  • Knowledge of BPSS, UKSV, criminality checking, identity verification or Right to Work requirements.
  • Experience of working to quality standards, service levels or turnaround targets in a customer or candidate-facing environment.
Why Serco:
