Job summary

Sheffield Hallam University is seeking a Technical Specialist to support aerospace and materials science in undergraduate engineering laboratories. Based within the Computing, Engineering, Technology and Analysis team you will assist staff and students and maintain laboratory equipment to enable teaching and project activities.

The role requires an HND or above in a relevant subject and experience with wind tunnels and material testing, including tensile strength and hardness measurement.

Qualifications

• Educated to HND or above in a relevant subject.
• Experience with wind tunnels and material testing.
• Strong teamwork, organisation and IT skills.
• Willing to adapt and learn new skills.

Responsibilities

• Support aerospace and materials science laboratories for undergraduate engineering teaching and project work.
• Assist staff and students with lab activities and equipment.
• Maintain and calibrate wind tunnels and laboratory apparatus.
• Prepare and test materials, including tensile strength and hardness measurements.
• Contribute to lab safety, organisation and accessibility of facilities.
