Job summary

MB Aerospace Newton Abbot Ltd, a Barnes Aerospace Company, seeks a trained operator to run and inspect aero-engine component manufacture across several machines. You will follow SOPs, maintain tooling and record batch data while mentoring trainees in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment.

Weekend/night shifts are involved, with strict adherence to quality requirements and health & safety standards as part of a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• NVQ 1 - Mechanical Engineering (desirable)
• Safety certificates such as grinding wheel certification (desirable)
• Manual handling training may be appropriate
• Ability to use measuring instruments (training provided)
• 6 months experience preferable

Responsibilities

• Clean and load components in fixture using correct datum faces.
• Operate machines following SOPs and company procedures.
• Inspect parts after machining cycle.
• Adjust tooling and coolant to maintain machine order.
• Coordinate with Inspection for first-off checks.
• Deburr components with hand tools.
• Visually inspect and measure components against specification.
• Use gauges and tooling as supplied.
• Calibrate and operate micro-PCRs per planning requirements.
• Inspect other operators' work, including trainees.
• Record production data and non-conformances.
• Assist training and mentoring of new team members.
• Maintain clean, safe work area; report issues.
• Maintain machines by replacing consumables; e.g., cutters and wheels.
• Hand finish components per planning.
• Promote in-cell standardisation: health & safety, 6S, SOPs, daily checks.
• Book off work per production and quality requirements
