Job summary

Cornwall Council is seeking an enthusiastic Advisor (Employment) to join the Employment Team within Customer and Business Operations. You will provide high-quality administrative support across employment and payroll activities, processing lifecycle changes and maintaining records to ensure accurate documentation.

You will work with employees, managers and external customers, delivering a professional, timely service while escalating complex matters as needed.

Job description

The Service & Team:

The Employment Team forms part of Customer and Business Operations within Cornwall Council's Customer and Support Services Directorate. The team provides a professional, customer-focused employment administration service supporting the employee lifecycle for Cornwall Council, schools, academies and external clients.

Working in a fast-paced environment, the team is responsible for processing employment-related transactions including new starters, contractual changes, leavers, payroll input, pension administration and the maintenance of employee records. The team works closely with managers, employees, schools and other service areas to ensure accurate, timely and compliant employment administration services are delivered.

The Role:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Advisor (Employment) to join our Employment Team.

In this role, you will provide high-quality administrative support across a range of employment and payroll-related activities. You will be responsible for processing employee lifecycle changes including new starters, contractual variations and leavers, maintaining electronic personnel records, and producing employment documentation.

You will work with a range of stakeholders including employees, managers, school administration staff and external customers, responding to queries and providing information and administrative support relating to employment processes. You will play an important role in ensuring customers receive a professional, timely and efficient service, escalating more complex matters where appropriate.

Working Pattern:

This role is typically based on a 37-hour working week, Monday to Friday.

What you’ll need to succeed:
  • An understanding of employment legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong research, information management and reporting skills.
  • The ability to identify issues, use sound judgement and propose practical solutions, escalating where appropriate.
  • A good understanding of confidentiality, information security and data protection principles.
  • Experience of accurately maintaining records and processing information using business systems.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong customer service skills and a commitment to delivering positive outcomes for customers and stakeholders.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships and communicate confidently with colleagues, managers and external partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • An adaptable approach, with a willingness to learn new systems, processes and ways of working.
