Job description

Job Summary

Leeds Gender Identity Service is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and proactive Speech and Language Therapist to specialize in voice and communication.

This is an exciting opportunity to assess and provide intervention to trans and gender-diverse service users aiming to find an authentic voice congruent with their gender identity.

Applicants should have experience in voice therapy, some experience with transgender voice work, and ideally, familiarity with adult dysfluency. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, and flexibility in therapeutic approaches is needed to address diverse needs, including autism and learning difficulties.

You will join a multidisciplinary team comprising doctors, psychologists, endocrinology, and nursing colleagues. Support is available through management supervision, 1:1 clinical and peer supervision, and the RCSLT CEN for transgender voice.

The primary base is Leeds; however, most therapy sessions are currently conducted online. We welcome inquiries about this role.

Main Duties
  1. Manage a caseload of patients with gender dysphoria, utilizing highly specialist knowledge of Voice and Communication Therapy, supported by advanced skills in clinical voice disorders.
  2. Accept referrals from gender service clinicians for Transgender Voice and Communication Therapy, conduct assessments, and deliver individual and group therapy sessions towards discharge. Liaise with GPs and other healthcare professionals as needed.
  3. Provide specialist assessments (perceptual and objective) and interventions in pitch, resonance, intonation, and voice quality through individual and group sessions, applying counselling skills and tailored intervention plans.
  4. Contribute to planning and delivering voice group therapy programs in collaboration with the gender team and lead the development and updating of care pathways within SLT.
