Job overview

We are seeking an Advanced Specialist Practitioner to join our team in Colorectal Surgery. This role involves supporting patients in emergency and elective colorectal surgical pathways, adhering to Trust and specialty guidelines, with support from registrar and consultant colleagues. Main duties of the job
  • Provide multidisciplinary care for colorectal patients, managing both elective and emergency cases from assessment to recovery.
  • Make critical clinical decisions using advanced expertise, supported by a portfolio of evidence and MSc qualification.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives, ensure guideline adherence, and supervise colleagues.
  • Drive research and audit activities, contribute to clinical governance, and participate in reviews and strategic meetings.

  • Practice autonomously at a specialist level, making high-quality clinical decisions.
  • Manage complete episodes of care, collaborating with teams and supporting patients.
  • Provide leadership and support to medical and nursing staff, modeling professional behavior.
  • Contribute to organizational culture through continuous learning, research, and service development.
  • Participate in audits, incident investigations, and research activities.
  • Lead pathway developments and coordinate patient admissions, assessments, and discharges.
Person specification
Knowledge & Experience
  • Motivated practitioner with extensive experience in relevant clinical settings.
  • Broad knowledge of clinical pathophysiology and diagnostic procedures.
  • Experience in colorectal conditions and management, leadership, and service improvement.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage conflicting pressures.
  • Experience in clinical research, audit, and multiple clinical areas.
Qualifications & Education
  • Professional clinical qualification or working towards a specialist qualification.
  • Non-medical Prescribing Qualification (if applicable).
  • BSc in relevant field, MSc in advanced clinical practice, and evidence of CPD.
  • Teaching and Leadership/Management qualifications or willingness to undertake.
