The role of Colorectal Advanced Specialist Practitioner is a pioneering position that we are proud to support.

Main duties of the job
  1. You will play a vital role in the multidisciplinary care of Colorectal patients, collaborating closely with medical colleagues to oversee both elective and emergency surgical cases, from pre-operative assessments to post-operative recovery.
  2. This position calls for a high level of advanced clinical expertise, where you'll be entrusted with making critical decisions and applying your professional judgement to ensure the best patient outcomes. Your skills and knowledge will be showcased through a portfolio of evidence and clinical competence, complemented by an appropriate MSc qualification.
  3. You will be instrumental in driving improvements to care standards, ensuring adherence to Colorectal guidelines through supervision, clinical audits, and evidence-based practices. As a key leader, you'll provide professional guidance to colleagues, nurturing a culture of excellence and supporting Physician Associates within the Colorectal service.
  4. Your leadership will extend to championing the implementation of cutting-edge research, integrating new findings into practice and contributing to the growing body of evidence through research and audits. You'll also have a significant role in clinical governance, leading audits, attending strategic meetings, and participating in morbidity and mortality reviews to refine and elevate practice.

Job responsibilities

To practice autonomously with a high level of accountability at a specialist clinical level in the direct delivery of high quality care, making critical clinical decisions based on specialist clinical skills assessment.

Plan and manage complete episodes of care, working in partnership with others and delegating and referring as appropriate to optimise health outcomes and resource use, as well as providing direct support to patients and clients.

To provide clear leadership and direction to support both the medical and nursing teams acting as a role model for the Trust, presenting a positive image to patients and staff.

Advocate and contribute to the development of an organisational culture that supports continuous learning and development, evidence-based practice and succession planning.

Be an active participant in Morbidity and Mortality reviews and in the investigation of incidents with a focus on shared learning and improvement.

Critically engage in research activity, adhering to good research practice guidance, so that evidence-based strategies are developed and applied to enhance quality, safety, productivity and value for money.

Lead on developments within the elective and emergency pathways, championing enhanced recovery and service improvement.

In conjunction with the medical staff, be responsible for co-ordinating the admission, assessment and discharge arrangements for elective and emergency Colorectal patients.

Support any patient speciality on the ward 11 elective pathway in the prescription of medications and basic interventions as required in the absence of the specialist team.
