Job summary

Navantia UK is recruiting for a Scaffolding Operations role at our Appledore facilities, focusing on erecting, inspecting and certifying complex scaffolding in industrial, marine and heavy engineering settings.

You will read and interpret scaffold drawings, plan scaffold requirements, and ensure compliance with Work at Height Regulations and company procedures while leading scaffolding teams. Competitive salary and benefits available.

Qualifications

  • CISRS Advanced Scaffolder qualification required.
  • Significant experience in industrial, marine, shipbuilding or heavy engineering environments.
  • Ability to read scaffold design drawings and technical plans.
  • Extensive knowledge of TG20, SG4, and Work at Height Regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Erect, modify and dismantle scaffolding structures per drawings, TG20, SG4 and procedures.
  • Construct various scaffold types including birdcage and cantilever systems.
  • Read and interpret scaffold drawings and technical documentation.
  • Assess work areas and determine suitable scaffold solutions for operations.
  • Inspect scaffolding components before use and ensure fit-for-purpose condition.
  • Carry out scaffold inspections and handover documentation after modifications or weather events.
  • Complete scaffold handover certificates and inspection records accurately.
  • Assist in planning scaffold requirements for projects and maintenance.
  • Review risk assessments, method statements and permit-to-work requirements.
  • Coordinate material requirements and ensure efficient equipment utilisation.
  • Promote safety leadership and compliance with regulations.

Job Description
Scaffolding Operations
  • Erect, modify and dismantle complex scaffolding structures in accordance with design drawings, TG20 guidance, SG4 requirements, and company procedures.
  • Construct independent scaffolds, birdcage scaffolds, cantilever scaffolds, suspended scaffolds, temporary roof systems, staircase towers, loading bays, and specialist access structures.
  • Read and interpret scaffold design drawings, engineering specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Assess work areas and determine suitable scaffold solutions for operational requirements.
  • Ensure all scaffolding components are inspected prior to use and are fit for purpose.
  • Carry out scaffold inspections before handover, following modifications, after adverse weather conditions, and at prescribed intervals.
  • Complete scaffold handover certificates, inspection reports, and associated records accurately.
Planning and Coordination
  • Assist in planning scaffold requirements for projects and maintenance activities.
  • Review risk assessments, method statements, and permit-to-work requirements.
  • Coordinate scaffold material requirements and ensure efficient utilisation of equipment.
Health, Safety & Environment
  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership and promote a positive safety culture.
  • Ensure all scaffolding activities comply with the Work at Height Regulations, company policies, and site procedures.
  • Ensure correct use of fall protection equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate in safety observations, audits, inspections, and incident investigations as required.
  • Support compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and all environmental management requirements.
Quality
  • Ensure scaffolding works are completed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, handover documentation, and work completion reports.
  • Report quality concerns and contribute to corrective and preventive actions when required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • CISRS Advanced Scaffolder qualification.
  • Valid CISRS Scaffolder Card.
  • Significant experience within industrial, marine, shipbuilding, construction, or heavy engineering environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of TG20, SG4, and Work at Height Regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret scaffold design drawings and technical plans.
  • Experience inspecting, modifying, and certifying scaffolding structures.
  • Strong understanding of scaffolding materials, loadings, and structural principles.
  • Ability to complete scaffold handover certificates and inspection records.
  • Experience leading or supervising scaffolding teams.
  • Good knowledge of site safety procedures and permit-to-work systems.
