Job summary

NHS Scotland is seeking an Advanced Respiratory Rapid Response Practitioner based at University Hospital Crosshouse. The role is permanent and offers 36 hours per week.

You will provide specialist respiratory care, symptom management and education to adults in the community, aiming to maximise health and promote self-management while reducing unnecessary hospital admissions.

Qualifications

• Experience with respiratory conditions and advanced clinical assessment skills.
• Non-medical prescribing experience is required or desirable.
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary respiratory team.

Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Advanced Respiratory Rapid Response Practitioner based at University Hospital Crosshouse. This post is offered on a permanent

Hours

36 hours per week.

Initially, the service will be available from 9am until 5pm Monday-Friday, with a view to extending to the weekends.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full‑time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What You Will Do

The aim of the RRR team is to provide timely, individualised and clinically effective care, including assessment and treatment to maximise patient health and wellbeing and promote self-management.

The Advanced Respiratory Practitioner will provide symptom management, education and training to adults with respiratory disease to provide timely and appropriate respiratory specialist input to enable patients experiencing a COPD exacerbation to receive appropriate treatment and care to remain at home whenever possible, providing a safe alternative to acute hospital admission and/or enabling people to return home as early as possible if they do require acute hospital admission.

Knowledge, Training And/or Experience Required For This Post

The Advanced Respiratory Practitioner will require to have the necessary respiratory experience and clinical assessment skills to assess, diagnosis and treat respiratory conditions, this includes non‑medical prescribing. You will be required to work as part of the wider respiratory multi-disciplinary team.

Educated with advanced skills, non‑medical prescribing and experience working with patients' with respiratory conditions.
