Job summary

Responsibilities

Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Rehabilitation Advisor based at University Hospital Crosshouse. This post is offered on a permanent basis.

Hours

36 hours per week. Monday - Friday

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

What You Will Do

Working within our busy and dynamic multidisciplinary team which provides a national cochlear implant service for profoundly deaf adults and children in Scotland, you will participate in the management of cochlear implant patients based at our modern, well-established clinic at Crosshouse Hospital and at outreach clinics in specific locations in other parts of Scotland. In this role, you will work as an autonomous practitioner supporting Deaf children and young people across Scotland. You will assess communication skills, functional hearing and spoken language development before and after implantation, using a range of specialist tools and your clinical expertise to inform care. You will deliver tailored auditory training and rehabilitation on a one-to-one basis and in group settings. You will contribute to multidisciplinary decision making, share detailed assessment findings, develop individualised management plans, and support colleagues across health and education sectors. The role also involves delivering education and training, participating in service development, maintaining accurate records to support audit and quality improvement, and representing the service at local and national meetings.

Knowledge, Training And/or Experience Required For This Post

You will hold a relevant professional qualification such as a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. BEd or degree plus PGDE) or a Speech and Language Therapy qualification, with appropriate professional registration (e.g. GTCS or HCPC). You will bring advanced postgraduate level knowledge in deaf education or paediatric rehabilitation, supported by significant post qualification experience working with Deaf children and young people. You will demonstrate a strong track record of managing complex caseloads, applying specialist assessment tools to evaluate functional hearing, communication and language development, and delivering evidence based auditory training and rehabilitation. Experience of working collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary teams across health and education is essential, alongside well developed skills in communication, report writing and delivering training. A commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of cochlear implants, assistive hearing technologies and rehabilitation approaches is expected.
