Job summary

Protocol is seeking an experienced Advanced Quality Practitioner to lead teaching quality across the South Region, covering HMP Exeter, HMP Channings Wood, HMP Portland, HMP The Verne and HMP Winchester. The role requires driving quality improvements, coaching staff, and delivering CPD to enhance learner progress.

The position is regional with 4-5 days per week across sites, with the primary base near the employee's home address.

Qualifications

• Recognised teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS, CET, DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent).
• Assessor and/or Internal Quality Assurance qualification (TAQA, CAVA, A1, V1, IQA or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Support the Prison Quality Strategy implementation across sites.
• Drive improvements in teaching, learning and assessment across multiple sites.
• Plan and deliver CPD and staff development sessions.
• Coach and mentor teaching staff to improve learner outcomes.
• Carry out learning walks, observations, desktop reviews and assessor reviews.
• Monitor and support post-observation action plans.
• Promote innovative teaching practices and quality improvement activities.
• Contribute to teacher training programmes.
• Support inspection preparation and act as quality representative during inspections.
• Analyse quality data and contribute to continuous improvement plans.

Advanced Quality Practitioner (Prison Education)

Location: South Region (Covering HMP Exeter, HMP Channings Wood, HMP Portland, HMP The Verne & HMP Winchester)
Salary: Up to £42,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and passionate Advanced Quality Practitioner to join a leading Prison Education team across the South Region.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in teaching, learning and assessment who is passionate about driving quality improvements, coaching colleagues and sharing best practice. You will play a key role in supporting educational staff to deliver outstanding learning experiences that help learners achieve meaningful and sustained progress.

You will work closely with curriculum and quality teams across multiple prison education sites, using your expertise to identify areas for improvement, provide developmental support, and promote excellence in teaching and learning.

This is a regional role, with an expectation of working across prison sites 4-5 days per week. Your primary base will be the prison nearest to your home address.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of the Prison Quality Strategy.

• Support preparation for Ofsted inspections and act as a quality representative during inspections.
• Analyse quality performance data and contribute to continuous improvement plans.
• Work collaboratively with curriculum managers and education teams to raise standards across prison education provision.

Qualifications

• Recognised Teaching Qualification (AET, PTLLS, CET, DTLLS, PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent).
• Assessor and/or Internal Quality Assurance qualification (TAQA, CAVA, A1, V1, IQA or equivalent).

Experience & Skills

• Experience within Further Education, Apprenticeships, Work-Based Learning, Employability or Prison Education.
• Strong knowledge of teaching, learning and assessment practices.
• Experience supporting quality improvement initiatives.
• Experience carrying out observations, learning walks or quality assurance activities.
• Excellent coaching, mentoring and staff development skills.
• Knowledge of assessment, internal verification and target-setting processes.
• Experience supporting learners from a range of backgrounds and abilities.
• Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly across the South Region.

Additional Information
