Main duties of the job

The Ultrasound Department provides comprehensive Obstetric and Gynaecology ultrasound services across UHNM. Operational management and support are co-ordinated from the Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital sites; however, clinical services are delivered across both hospitals and a number of community-based locations.

UHNM Maternity Services supports approximately 6,500 births each year. The ultrasound service plays a key role in delivering routine antenatal screening in accordance with national screening programme standards and guidelines. In addition, our sonographers support a wide range of specialist services, including the Early Pregnancy Unit, Maternity Assessment Unit, and dedicated antenatal and gynaecology clinics, ensuring women receive timely access to high-quality diagnostic imaging throughout their care pathway.

We are a modern, forward-thinking department equipped with a diverse range of ultrasound technology to support both routine and complex examinations. The service offers a varied and challenging caseload, providing excellent opportunities for professional development and the enhancement of clinical skills.

As a fast-paced, dynamic and supportive team, we are committed to delivering high-quality patient-centred care while fostering a positive working environment. The department currently operates a six-day service, with staff participating in a rotational weekend and bank holiday service to ensure continuity of care for our patients.
