Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is recruiting Advanced Practitioners who will work autonomously across Primary, Community and Acute Services, covering seven days. You will make complex clinical decisions, assess and treat patients, and collaborate with MDT/medical staff to ensure safe, effective care.

A Masters level and a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Clinical Practice are required. The role includes night and day shifts, professional development, research involvement, and participation in education and

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse / AHP / Pharmacist with valid NMC/HCPC/GPHC Registration.
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Masters Level.
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced clinical practice and expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the specialty.
  • A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

Responsibilities

  • Autonomously assesses, diagnose and treats individuals with a range of acute, non acute and chronic presenting medical conditions across lifespan.
  • Utilise advanced knowledge and highly specialist clinical skills in a range of settings to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care in order to deliver the highest possible standard of care to patients and their families within the confines of available resources and refers to appropriate agencies
  • Practice at all times within the Professional Codes of Conduct
  • Conduct evidence based practice in accordance with clinical guidelines and standards
  • Manage own time to meet the various demands of the role, including clinical, educational and administrative elements
  • Participate in the planning and delivery of education and training events for staff
  • Develop and actively participate in research by working collaboratively with multidisciplinary and academic partners and other HEIs
  • Undertake research, develop research proposals, and evaluate research findings by critique of relevant clinical studies
  • Attend statutory training sessions
  • Attend relevant study days/lectures where appropriate, to both update and increase knowledge

Job description

Applicants who do not meet the essential criteria will be considered under the Annex 21 training programme, where whilst undergoing training, they will be paid a 70% of the top of Band 7 and on completion of training will then move on to Band 7 scale.

The Role

The Advanced Practitioners will work autonomously across Primary, Community and Acute Services during the in and out of hours period, covering seven days including public holidays. They will be responsible for the clinical decision making for the population including assessment and treatment of patients in across the Primary, Community and Acute settings. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT)/medical staff including the OOH Hub and Acute Services. Communicate on a daily basis about any patient they have seen overnight/ at weekend and who needs to be followed up by the GP / Acute Services during normal working hours and provides assessment, clinical care and management of both stable and acutely unwell patient and his/her family, making complex, autonomous decisions using advanced skills and knowledge, having overall responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the delivery of advanced care. Medical telehealth/telephone support will be available when required from an identified source.

The working pattern for this role is: 11.5 hours, 07:45 - 20:15 days and, 19:45 - 08:15 nights, over 7 days

Education and Training
  • Attend statutory training sessions
  • Attend relevant study days/lectures where appropriate, to both update and increase knowledge
