Overview

Total Social are working with Wigan Council who are looking for an experienced locum Children\'s Social Worker for their Duty Service.

The Duty service in Wigan consists of 5 duty teams and a Duty Academy, you will be on Duty one week in five. Each Duty Team consists of a Team Manager, Advanced Practitioner, Senior Social worker and six Social Workers. Families who we work with in Duty require our expert assessment and intervention skills at the very first stage of assessment and support.

The Duty service do not hold cases long term and following your assessment and intervention period the outcome of this will determine the best team for the family to step across to.

Responsibilities
  • Work on one of the 5 main Duty teams within the 5-week Duty cycle (on Duty one week in five).
  • Engage with fast-paced Duty work, providing expert assessment and early intervention at initial stages of support for children and families.
  • Be involved in case transfer points including the Initial Child Protection Case Conference, the first CLA review, the first PLO meeting, the 3rd CIN meeting, and ensure appropriate transfer of cases to the most suitable team after assessment and intervention.
What you will need
  • Experience as a locum Children\'s Social Worker (as stated in the posting).
  • Ability to think quickly and be creative to overcome complex challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and caring skills to support the needs of children, young people and their families.
  • Motivation to empower children and families to reach their own solutions and help them make long-term sustainable family plans.
