Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

The closing date is 26 May 2025

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team of Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners at University Hospital Sussex.

We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, and innovative practitioner to work across sites at our ANNP Led Level 1 SCBU at the Princess Royal Hospital and our Level 3 tertiary NICU, which includes surgery at the Trevor Mann Baby Unit NICU.

We offer:

  • An ANNP-led neonatal service
  • An expanding Level 3 medical and surgical intensive care unit
  • The Sussex Neonatal Transport Service
  • Supported professional development tailored to your needs

Our new structure features a two-tiered team, providing opportunities to gain exposure across different clinical settings and scenarios, ensuring your clinical and educational needs are met through diverse experiences.

The successful candidate will work clinically with a non-clinical component covering all four pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice, contributing to service improvement and professional development.

The primary base for clinical practice will be our Level 1 SCBU, an ANNP-led service. You will have responsibility, autonomy, and independence to manage the care of newborn infants day and night, supported by the Sussex Neonatal Transport Team and Consultant Neonatologists.

Main duties of the job

The post involves cross-site duties (SHO rota equivalent) at Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and SCBU at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath, with the primary base at the latter.

The ANNP promotes individualised, family-centred holistic care for neonates and their families, utilizing advanced skills and knowledge. You will provide clinical advice, support, and teaching to the multidisciplinary team.

Using your advanced clinical skills and knowledge, you will exercise professional autonomy to deliver safe, evidence-based care and high-quality medical management within the neonatal unit, postnatal ward, and delivery suite, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

The role is weighted as follows:

  • 80% Clinical
  • 20% Non-clinical

Non-clinical time is allocated for service development, including:

  • Education
  • Leadership
  • Research/Clinical Governance

This time ensures all four pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice are achieved to support your ongoing professional development as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner.
