Job summary

Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is recruiting Advanced Practitioners / Best Interest Assessors to join the DoLS team in Oldbury. The roles involve delivering high-quality Best Interests Assessments, leading MCA/DoLS practice, and supporting staff development across the service.

The posts include 2 full-time and 1 part-time contracts on a fixed-term basis, with hybrid working options and a comprehensive induction and supervision package to strengthen rights-based practice.

Qualifications

• Hold a Best Interest Assessor qualification.
• Significant knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and DoLS.
• Demonstrate strong assessment, analytical and decision-making skills.
• Confident in coaching, mentoring and developing others.
• Ability to influence practice across teams and partners.

Responsibilities

• Complete complex and high-quality Best Interests Assessments under DoLS.
• Provide leadership and expert advice on MCA and DoLS.
• Support and develop practitioners to improve MCA understanding.
• Design and deliver training, workshops and reflective practice sessions.
• Facilitate MCA and DoLS surgeries and offer guidance.
• Promote joint working with internal and external partners.
• Drive continuous improvement and share best practices.
