The role includes leading a gestational diabetes telephone clinic and developing dietetic services, with emphasis on patient-centred care and evidence-based pathways.

Qualifications

• Essential: Nutrition and Dietetics degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
• Essential: HCPC registered Dietitian.
• Essential: Evidence of relevant post-registration training.
• Essential: Oncology dietetics experience in an acute setting.
• Essential: Relevant post-registration clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the gestational diabetes telephone clinic, ensuring structured dietary education after diagnosis.
• Explain gestational diabetes information and break down dietary principles into practical steps.
• Assess callers understanding and identify areas needing clarification during calls.
• Discuss practical approaches to dietary changes in daily meals and routines after diagnosis.
• Contribute to development of a Teams-based group education model for potential group delivery.
• Support review and refinement of the gestational diabetes education pathway.

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Dietitian in Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust to join the Dietitian adults in Princess Alexandra Hospital. You will be responsible for providing nutritional support to patients and/or carers with Upper G.I. and Head & Neck tumour sites, supporting their nutritional needs throughout their treatment and care. You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, managing and supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred nutritional care and ensuring appropriate dietary management is provided to meet individual clinical needs.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Dietitian, you will be responsible for contributing to Upper GI and Head & Neck tumour site pathways, including attending relevant MDT meetings and providing dietetic input as part of the patient pathway. You will also be responsible for delivering a dedicated Dietetic Oncology telephone clinic, enabling patients to access follow-up and advice.

Job responsibilities

• To deliver the gestational diabetes telephone clinic, ensuring women newly diagnosed with the condition receive structured dietary education following their initial diagnosis.
• To provide further explanation of written gestational diabetes information, breaking down key dietary principles into clear and practical steps that can be understood and applied.
• To assess each callers understanding of the dietary information provided and identify any areas requiring further clarification during the telephone consultation.
• To discuss practical approaches to incorporating recommended dietary changes into everyday meals, routines and lifestyle following a diagnosis of gestational diabetes.
• To contribute to the development of a Teams-based group education model, considering how the existing one-to-one telephone service could be adapted for group delivery.
• To support the review and refinement of the gestational diabetes education pathway, helping to ensure the format and content remain appropriate for women accessing the service.
