Job Summary
Advanced Clinical Practitioner – Pay: £28.48–£31.73 per hour (dependent on experience) + a £2.5k Golden Hello paid in two instalments over 6 months (pro rata) for external applicants only. Hours: 24 per week. Accountable to: Associate Director of Clinical Services. Reports to: Lancashire Clinical Manager. Base: Morecambe Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). Evening and weekend work required as part of this post.

Morecambe UTC is an urgent care centre delivering care from 8 am to 8 pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We work closely with Morecambe GP Out of Hours to provide urgent care across a wide age range. Our team values peer support, innovation, quality of care and an open, honest culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with and champion the unit alongside Senior Managers to ensure all service KPIs and targets are met and continuously improved.
- Support the Management team and Clinical Manager to meet commissioned targets and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Maintain mandatory training and receive suitable CPD to meet development needs.
- Practice autonomously as an independent practitioner, undertaking assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referral and discharge of patients with minor injury and illness within agreed parameters.
- Provide advanced clinical skills and advice, demonstrating a sound understanding of identification, assessment, diagnosis, management, and refer appropriately.
- Initiate and interpret relevant diagnostic investigations and results, and safely undertake invasive and non‑invasive procedures.
- Conduct telephone triage independently.
- Work within current Non‑Medical Prescribing legislation/guidelines.
- Lead clinical governance activities including audit, research, evidence‑based practice, teaching and support of colleagues.
- Act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and other relevant professional bodies.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assess, treat and advise patients presenting with health care needs.
- Provide supervision of the clinical team and develop team members.
- Refer patients to primary or secondary care as required and support others as necessary.
- Ensure all practice remains within scope of competence and obeys safety and performance standards.
- Work at an advanced level of practice reflected under the four pillars of advanced practice of the HEE, performing investigative procedures and interpreting x‑rays.
- Maintain and update clinical and nursing policies, procedures and protocols.
Professional Responsibilities
- Model standards of care and behaviour through clinical practice.
- Analyse local and national policy, advise on impact for service, lead implementation of changes.
- Maintain professional registration, CPD, portfolio, and prescribing competency.
- Prescribe medication in accordance with NMC guidelines and NICE/CKS guidelines.
- Allocate, coordinate, monitor and assess workload, ensuring resource utilisation and service needs are met.
- Act as an advocate for patients, carers, service and organisation.
- Carry out annual review of best practice / national standards and implement recommended changes.
- Promote workforce integrity, maintaining accreditation, complaints management, competency assessment and mandatory training.
Education and Training
- Identify own development needs and create a personal development plan.
- Distribute educational leaflets for patients relating to services and pathways.
- Meet personal, peer support and clinical supervision needs.
- Contribute to clinical governance outcomes.
- Assist in implementing training and development locally.
- Research and apply professional and national guidelines on confidentiality.
Research and Development
- Evaluate clinical practice through audit and develop strategies to address shortfalls.
- Undertake audits with the Clinical Manager and demonstrate knowledge of current research.
- Advise colleagues on implementation of research findings.
- Initiate or participate in research projects, disseminate findings via local or national publications.
- Implement research findings to improve practice and promote multidisciplinary objectives.

Person Specification – Essential
- Registered Practitioner (NMC / HCPC)
- First Contact Practitioner / Advanced Practice qualification or RCN credentialed practitioner
- Experience with children and adults in unscheduled care
- Non‑medical prescribing qualification (V300)
- Minimum 5 years post‑registration experience and passion for integrated urgent care
- Expert autonomous practice in unscheduled care managing minor injuries of all ages
- Health promotion experience
- Clinical computer systems including Adastra
- Understanding of urgent health care initiatives and CQC compliance
- Teaching or clinical supervision experience
- Willingness and ability to attend training and development
- Positive can‑do attitude, leadership, adaptability, team‑working, communication skills, organisational and governance understanding
Person Specification – Desirable
- Recognised training in minor injury / illness, consultation and examination skills
- IRMER / red‑dot x‑ray interpretation course
- Practice assessor certificate
- Telephone triage qualification
- Experience within community urgent care, ED or primary care prescribing
- Innovative practice delivering patient‑centred care
- Evidence of clinical competence in local anaesthesia, suturing, x‑ray interpretation, fracture management
