Advanced Biomedical Scientist - Haematology *£2,000 Incentive*

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team to assist with running of the routine Haematology & Coagulation service at Ipswich Hospital.

You will be HCPC registered with knowledge and experience of NHS laboratory Haematology & Coagulation commensurate with this band. You will be confident and motivated and possess a wide range of skills demonstrating good numeracy and literacy, training experience and attention to detail. You will have previous experience of using the ACL TOP and Sysmex XN analysers or demonstrate an understanding of the technologies used within Haematology & Coagulation.

Main duties of the job

The role will include: supervising the Coagulation and Haematology section and help managing the daily organisation and staffing of the section with the current post holders; ensuring the analysers are maintained correctly and undertaking any troubleshooting that is required; dealing with engineering visits and organising the section around planned and unplanned analytical down time; monitoring internal and external quality-control performance and initiating any remedial action required; dealing with stock control and ordering of reagents and materials; the writing and updating of SOPs and staff competency logs; and ensure that the section remains ISO:15189 compliant. The role also includes deputising for the Haematology Lead in their absence, so a good knowledge of both routine Haematology and Coagulation is required.

The role involves overseeing the raising of purchase orders and receipting invoices; networking with our referral providers; dealing with information requests and problems. The post is line managed by the Blood Sciences - Haematology Manager at Ipswich.

Our pathology department is part of the collaborative East Coast Pathology Network (see attached document)

Person Specification
Education
  • HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent
  • Appropriate Post Graduate qualifications e.g. IBMS Higher Specialist diploma or IBMS Diploma in Biomedical Science, Masters or equivalent or working towards
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Holding or working towards a qualification that supports management responsibilities such as health and safety, training officer, or quality management associated with post
Knowledge & Experience
  • Highly specialist knowledge and experience across a range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theory and practice relevant to post
  • Extensive practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory
  • Experience of managing people
  • Experience of Pathology IT systems
  • Practical experience of Quality Management and Quality Management Systems
  • Experience of performing and evaluating Risk Assessments
  • European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent
  • Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS
