Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking an hands-on R&D Advanced Power Systems Technician to join an in-house powertrain team. Based in Peterborough, you will work on electric motor testing, hybrid powertrain development, and transmission programmes on a 12-month, fully onsite contract.

37 hours per week, £20.00 per hour, day shift. You will support build, test, data logging, and fault finding across emerging technologies.

Qualifications

• Completed Modern Apprenticeship (Mechanical or Electrical discipline) or an equivalent technical qualification (e.g., BTEC / ONC / HNC).
• Minimum 2-3 years of post-apprenticeship, hands-on experience in a mechanical/electrical testing, workshop, or R&D environment.
• Strong background in diagnostics, fault-finding, mechanical fitting, and reading technical drawings/wiring diagrams.
• Problem-solving mindset, clear communication skills, high reliability, and the ability to work well independently and in a team.
• Full clean UK driving licence and valid passport.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hands-on mechanical and electrical build, strip, rebuild, diagnostic, and repair activities on prototype power systems.
• Run test bed software, carry out test plans, and support data logging/analysis under the guidance of lead engineers.
• Perform electrical safety and insulation checks using diagnostic and service tools.
• Identify, report, and help resolve technical or product quality issues.
• Maintain strict adherence to Health & Safety standards, standard work instructions, and safe workshop practices.
