Job summary

Peterborough City Council is seeking an ambitious Adults Improvement Officer to join the Adults Service Improvement and Development Team. This fixed-term role (5 months, with potential secondment) drives transformation, delivering ideas from concept to implementation to improve outcomes and financial sustainability.

You'll lead complex projects, develop business cases with cost modelling and risk analysis, ensure governance, and report to senior officers and Cabinet, while working with partners

  • Strong project management knowledge, including risk and financial management.
  • Experience delivering complex projects or programmes in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to develop clear, evidence-based business cases and reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence a range of audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Job description

All about the Role

We are looking for an ambitious and motivated Adults Improvement Officer to join our Adults Service Improvement and Development Team and play a key role in delivering transformation and improvement across the Council. This role is offered on a fixed-term basis for 5 months, with the option for a secondment. In this role, you will take ownership of a range of projects from concept through to implementation-developing ideas into viable, deliverable solutions that support improved outcomes, service efficiencies, and financial sustainability.

You will:

  • Lead and deliver complex improvement and transformation projects from start to finish
  • Develop business cases, including cost modelling, risk analysis and delivery planning
  • Ensure robust governance, programme management and reporting arrangements are in place
  • Prepare high-quality reports, including briefings for senior officers and Cabinet
  • Work closely with colleagues, partners and external advisors to deliver successful outcomes
  • Provide day-to-day project support across the Adults Directorate as required

This is a varied and dynamic role where no two days are the same. You will work at pace, balancing multiple priorities, and operating confidently in a political and commercial environment.
