Job description

Adults Social Worker - Blackpool

Position: Learning Disability Social Worker

Hours: 37 hours/week

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Adult Social Care Learning Disability Team in Blackpool. The team supports adults and young people living in Blackpool by providing direct support and commissioning specialist services from providers.

Working Hours: Monday to Thursday, 9am - 5pm, and Friday 9am - 4.30pm. Based at Blackpool Council Bickerstaffe Offices.

This role involves supporting adults and young people with learning disabilities in completing Care Act Assessments and reviews. The post will be line managed by the Learning Disability Team Manager.

The team includes Adult Social Care staff from Blackpool Council and NHS Health staff from Blackpool Teaching Hospitals.

Candidate Requirements: We seek an enthusiastic and committed social worker with excellent communication and organisational skills. You should have a good knowledge of the Care Act 2014, experience in safeguarding, managing risks, and care management. Experience working with adults with learning disabilities and their families is essential. You should be passionate about learning disabilities, collaborative, and a strong team player.

Role Purpose: To provide professional social work support and interventions to enable individuals to maintain independence and quality of life across various settings.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake assessments and reviews, and commission services in line with policies, procedures, and statutory guidance such as the Care Act 2014.
  • Participate in safeguarding procedures, including identification, investigation, and acting as Safeguarding Lead when appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams, providers, carers, and external agencies to deliver outcome-focused services.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, the HCPC Code of Conduct for Social Workers, and the capability framework.
  • Empower individuals to make informed choices, in accordance with the Care Act 2014.
  • Keep up-to-date with current issues and developments in social care and health.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in supervision and team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records using departmental IT systems, in line with statutory and departmental requirements, and follow administrative procedures.
