Job summary

Hull City Council is seeking an experienced Adoption Team Manager to lead key areas of adoption practice, including recruitment and assessment of adopters, family finding for children, and providing Adoption Agency Advisor duties to the Local Authority and Adoption Panel.

The post holder will oversee Non-Agency Adoption work and contribute to service development across One Adoption North and Humber. A DBS check may be required as part of safeguarding compliance.

Responsibilities

• Strategy – manage the adoption service and provide duty, assessment and family support to birth families and adopters with high-quality provision.
• Customer Focus – promote and safeguard welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults following Hull Safeguarding Board procedures.
• Performance Management – monitor the Adoption Team against minimum requirements and assist inspection processes.
• Leadership – motivate and lead social work staff to ensure robust casework and compliant service delivery.
• Statutory Obligations – ensure adoption service compliance and contribute to inspections.
• Make budgetary and other decisions within delegations for children in the scheme.
• Chairs multi-agency meetings and provides expert advice to colleagues and the Adoption Panel on adoption matters.
• Makes decisions on adoption and post-order support within delegations.
• Recruit, appoint and supervise staff and Adoption Panel members to ensure professional standards and development.
• Ensure procedures are followed and there is regular auditing of case files and robust assessments.
